Another Fun Wochenende!

We had another fun weekend in Germany! RB Leipzig had a home game on Saturday afternoon. Our neighborhood was rocking! Fans filled the streets cheering, chanting and drinking at the local pub on our street. We played at the local Speilplatz, made pizza and officially joined the local cycling culture thanks to a great purchase at Fahrrad-Willy’s!

Croissants & Curlers

Right around the corner from our apartment is a wonderful local bakery. This morning we decided it would be fun to head over and get some croissants for breakfast. We left at 8:55am. When we arrived at the bakery just after 9am, there was a long line. I immediately thought it didn’t open until 9am. Boy was I wrong! The bakery opened at 6:00am but they only let one customer in at a time (think Seinfeld Soup Nazi episode). Adrian and Sabrina went in looking for some croissants. They quickly found out that the croissants sold out by 6:35am and needed to quickly pivot. Adrian used his German to order some curlers, chocolade streusel kuchen (chocolate cake) and buns and we now know better for next time if croissants are on the menu:)

Prost!

Last night we thought it would be fun to try a traditional German hot dinner. Typically Germans eat crusty bread, smelly cheeses, veggies, meat and pate for dinner. A lighter fare following a hearty lunch. They also love their sausages. So off we went to the local grocery store to buy some Bratwurst (veggie option for Adrian), sauerkraut, potatoes and carrots. I used what little German I know to order zwei bratwurst and shortly thereafter we were feasting on a delicious meal (don’t forget the heff)!

We made it to Germany!

It’s hard to believe that we’ve been in Germany for just over 1 week! We arrived safely and are starting to settle in. Adrian, Sabrina and I were upgraded to Premium Economy Plus and Cooper survived his first flight relatively unscathed. When we arrived in Munich, people kept saying ‘handsome hund’! Hopefully that bodes well for his stay in Germany.

Our apartment is located in a great neighbourhood with stores, bars, parks and playgrounds within a 10 minute walk. The RB Leipzig stadium is literally in our backyard. Not sure if the Germans tailgate before games but I imagine our hood will be a happening place on Game Day! Since arriving we’ve been trying to partake in as many German traditions as possible. We’re eating sausages, and schnitzel, drinking hefeweizen and taking the Sban.

Grocery shopping has been an experience. Yesterday it took me 45 minutes to find 10 items. Let’s just say that google translate has become my best friend!

Sabrina started school this week. So far so good! One of her teachers speaks to the children in English and the other in German. Adrian and I imagine she’ll be helping us with our German soon.

Auf Wiedersehen
